Paulyn is a 200-hr certified yoga instructor and uses mindful and playful sequences to allow students to move on their own terms. Her main focus throughout class isn't necessarily on the poses, but rather on how to move fluidly between them. This allows her students to explore their own strength, balance, coordination and endurance - all things that we can use in our everyday lives. In her meditation classes, she uses her percussion drum and singing bowls to create a space for healing and relaxation.


Why do you teach meditation?

I teach meditation in the hopes to help others understand themselves better, and to foster peace within us and with the world around us. I believe that if you understand your own habits, strengths, and weaknesses, perhaps you'll have a better chance of understanding others… in both pleasant conversations and uncomfortable confrontations. When we understand ourselves, we are better able to make peace with our own tendencies, with people who may walk a different path from us, and with the world in general. True peace and understanding in the world can be achieved, but it must begin from a place within you. 


What brought you to meditation?

I'd say that my stress brought me to meditation haha. Any moment that required an extra second of deep breathing has strengthened my relationship to meditation and has helped me stay optimistic in my daily life.


If you could give advice to someone new in meditation - what would you say?

Be present in the moment. First observe your breath and see if it correlates to your emotional state: Are you stressed out and/or breathing shallow? Are you calm and/or breathing deeply? And if you can, adjust your breath to fit your intentions for the session. The more you practice, the easier it is to understand your own initial thoughts and how to respond to certain situations more effectively. Some sessions will be more difficult to dive into than others, so the most important thing to remember is to trust the process and leave all judgments at the door!


What do you hope people take away from your meditation?

I simply hope that my classes add another tool to my students' personal growth and healing.
